the Baptist,

preaching

κηρύσσω

ἐν

the wilderness

ἔρημος

of Judaea,

Ἰουδαία

saying,

λέγω

Repent ye:

μετανοέω

for

γάρ

the kingdom

βασιλεία

of heaven

οὐρανός

is at hand.

ἐγγίζω

this

οὗτος

is he

ἐστί

that was spoken

of by

ὑπό

the prophet

προφήτης

Esaias,

Ἠσαΐας

saying,

λέγω

The voice

φωνή

of one crying

βοάω

in

ἐν

the wilderness,

ἔρημος

Prepare ye

ἑτοιμάζω

the way

ὁδός

of the Lord,

κύριος

make

ποιέω

his

αὐτός

paths

τρίβος

straight.

had

ἔχω

raiment

ἔνδυμα

of

ἀπό

camel's

κάμηλος

hair,

θρίξ

and

a leathern

δερμάτινος

girdle

ζώνη

about

περί

his

αὐτός

loins;

ὀσφύς

and

δέ

his

αὐτός

meat

τροφή

was

ἦν

locusts

ἀκρίς

and

καί

wild

ἄγριος

honey.

went out

ἐκπορεύομαι

to

πρός

him

αὐτός

Jerusalem,

Ἱεροσόλυμα

all

πᾶς

Judaea,

Ἰουδαία

καί

πᾶς

the region round about

Ἰορδάνης

were baptized

Jordan,

confessing

ἐξομολογέω

their

αὐτός

sins.

many

πολύς

of the Pharisees

Φαρισαῖος

and

Sadducees

Σαδδουκαῖος

come

ἔρχομαι

to

ἐπί

his

αὐτός

baptism,

βάπτισμα

he said

unto them,

αὐτός

O generation

γέννημα

of vipers,

ἔχιδνα

who

τίς

hath warned

ὑποδείκνυμι

you

ὑμῖν

to flee

φεύγω

from

ἀπό

the wrath

ὀργή

to come?

μέλλω

Bring forth

therefore

fruits

meet

ἄξιος

for repentance:

μετάνοια

to say

λέγω

within

ἐν

yourselves,

ἑαυτοῦ

We have

ἔχω

Abraham

Ἀβραάμ

to our father:

πατήρ

for

γάρ

I say

λέγω

unto you,

ὑμῖν

that

ὅτι

God

θεός

is able

δύναμαι

of

ἐκ

these

τούτων

stones

λίθος

to raise up

ἐγείρω

children

τέκνον

unto Abraham.

the axe

ἀξίνη

is laid

κεῖμαι

unto

πρός

the root

ῥίζα

of the trees:

δένδρον

therefore

every

πᾶς

tree

δένδρον

which bringeth

μή

forth

ποιέω

good

καλός

fruit

καρπός

is hewn down,

ἐκκόπτω

and

καί

cast

βάλλω

into

εἰς

the fire.

indeed

baptize

βαπτίζω

you

ὑμᾶς

with

ἐν

water

ὕδωρ

unto

εἰς

repentance:

μετάνοια

but

δέ

he that cometh

ἔρχομαι

after

ὀπίσω

me

μοῦ

is

ἐστί

mightier than

ἰσχυρός

I,

μοῦ

whose

ὅς

shoes

ὑπόδημα

I am

εἰμί

not

οὐ

worthy

ἱκανός

to bear:

βαστάζω

he

αὐτός

shall baptize

βαπτίζω

you

ὑμᾶς

with

ἐν

the Holy

ἅγιος

Ghost,

πνεῦμα

and

καί

with fire:

πῦρ

Whose

fan

πτύον

is in

ἐν

his

αὐτός

hand,

χείρ

and

καί

he will throughly purge

διακαθαρίζω

his

αὐτός

floor,

ἅλων

and

καί

gather

συνάγω

his

αὐτός

wheat

σῖτος

into

εἰς

the garner;

ἀποθήκη

but

δέ

he will burn up

κατακαίω

the chaff

ἄχυρον

with unquenchable

ἄσβεστος

fire.

Galilee

Γαλιλαία

Jordan

unto

John,

Ἰωάννης

to be baptized

βαπτίζω

of

ὑπό

him.

αὐτός

forbad

διακωλύω

him, saying,

λέγω

I

ἐγώ

have

ἔχω

need

χρεία

to be baptized

βαπτίζω

of

ὑπό

thee,

σοῦ

and

καί

comest

ἔρχομαι

thou

σύ

to

πρός

me?

μέ

And

δέ

Jesus

Ἰησοῦς

answering

ἀποκρίνομαι

said

unto

πρός

him,

αὐτός

Suffer

ἀφίημι

it to be so now:

ἄρτι

for

γάρ

thus

οὕτως

it becometh

πρέπω

ἐστί

us

ἡμῖν

to fulfil

πληρόω

all

πᾶς

righteousness.

δικαιοσύνη

Then

τότε

he suffered

ἀφίημι

him.

αὐτός

Jesus,

Ἰησοῦς

when he was baptized,

βαπτίζω

went up

ἀναβαίνω

straightway

εὐθύς

out of

ἀπό

the water:

ὕδωρ

and,

lo,

ἰδού

the heavens

οὐρανός

were opened

ἀνοίγω

unto him,

αὐτός

and

καί

he saw

οἶδα

the Spirit

πνεῦμα

of God

θεός

descending

καταβαίνω

like

ὡσεί

a dove,

περιστερά

and

καί

lighting

ἔρχομαι

upon

ἐπί

him:

αὐτός

a voice

φωνή

from

ἐκ

heaven,

οὐρανός

saying,

λέγω

This

οὗτος

is

ἐστί

my

μοῦ

beloved

ἀγαπητός

Son,

υἱός

in

ἐν

whom

ὅς

I am well pleased.

εὐδοκέω
