A Warning against Apostasy

the Spirit

speaketh

expressly,

τις

shall depart from

ἀφίστημι

the faith,

πίστις

giving heed

προσέχω

to seducing

πλάνος

spirits,

πνεῦμα

and

καί

doctrines

διδασκαλία

of devils;

δαιμόνιον

Speaking lies

ψευδολόγος

in

ἐν

hypocrisy;

ὑπόκρισις

having

καυτηριάζω

their

ἴδιος

conscience

συνείδησις

seared with a hot iron;

Forbidding

κωλύω

to marry,

γαμέω

and commanding to abstain from

ἀπέχομαι

meats,

βρῶμα

which

ὅς

God

θεός

hath created

κτίζω

to

εἰς

be received

μετάληψις

with

μετά

thanksgiving

εὐχαριστία

of them which believe

πιστός

and

καί

know

ἐπιγινώσκω

the truth.

ἀλήθεια

πᾶς

creature

κτίσμα

of God

θεός

is good,

καλός

and

καί

nothing

οὐδείς

to be refused,

ἀπόβλητος

if it be received

λαμβάνω

with

μετά

thanksgiving:

εὐχαριστία

it is sanctified

ἁγιάζω

by

the word

λόγος

of God

θεός

and

καί

prayer.

ἔντευξις

the brethren

in remembrance

ὑποτίθημι

of these things,

ταῦτα

thou shalt be

ἔσομαι

a good

minister

διάκονος

of Jesus

Ἰησοῦς

Christ,

Χριστός

nourished up

ἐντρέφω

in the words

λόγος

of faith

πίστις

and

καί

of good

καλός

doctrine,

διδασκαλία

whereunto

ὅς

thou hast attained.

παρακολουθέω

refuse

παραιτέομαι

profane

βέβηλος

and

old wives'

γραώδης

fables,

μῦθος

and

δέ

exercise

γυμνάζω

thyself

σεαυτοῦ

rather unto

πρός

godliness.

εὐσέβεια

For

γάρ

bodily

σωματικός

exercise

γυμνασία

profiteth

ἐστί

ὠφέλιμος

little:

πρός

ὀλίγος

but

δέ

godliness

εὐσέβεια

is

ἐστί

profitable

ὠφέλιμος

unto

πρός

all things,

πᾶς

having

ἔχω

promise

ἐπαγγελία

of the life

ζωή

that now is,

νῦν

and

of that which is to come.

μέλλω

This is a faithful

saying

worthy

ἄξιος

of all

acceptation.

labour

suffer reproach,

ὀνειδίζω

because

we trust

ἐλπίζω

ὅς

ἐστί

the Saviour

σωτήρ

of all

πᾶς

men,

ἄνθρωπος

specially

μάλιστα

of those that believe.

παραγγέλλω

teach.

καταφρονέω

no man

μηδείς

despise

καταφρονέω

thy

σοῦ

youth;

νεότης

but

ἀλλά

be thou

γίνομαι

an example

τύπος

of the believers,

πιστός

in

ἐν

word,

λόγος

in

ἐν

conversation,

ἀναστροφή

in

ἐν

charity,

ἀγάπη

in

ἐν

spirit,

πνεῦμα

in

ἐν

faith,

πίστις

in

ἐν

purity.

ἁγνεία

Till

ἕως

I come,

ἔρχομαι

give attendance

προσέχω

to reading,

ἀνάγνωσις

to exhortation,

παράκλησις

to doctrine.

διδασκαλία

Neglect

ἀμελέω

not

μή

the gift

χάρισμα

that is in

ἐν

thee,

σοί

which

ὅς

was given

δίδωμι

thee

σοί

by

διά

prophecy,

προφητεία

with

μετά

the laying on

ἐπίθεσις

of the hands

χείρ

of the presbytery.

πρεσβυτέριον

Meditate upon

μελετάω

these things;

ταῦτα

give thyself

ἴσθι

wholly to

ἐν

them;

τούτοις

that

ἵνα

thy

σοῦ

profiting

προκοπή

may

ὦ

appear

φανερός

to

ἐν

all.

Take heed

ἐπέχω

unto thyself,

σεαυτοῦ

and

unto the doctrine;

διδασκαλία

continue

ἐπιμένω

in them:

αὐτός

for

γάρ

in doing

ποιέω

this

τοῦτο

thou shalt

σῴζω

both

καί

save

σῴζω

thyself,

σεαυτοῦ

and

καί

them that hear

ἀκούω

thee.
