brethren,

need

χρεία

that I write

unto you.

For

γάρ

yourselves

know

οἶδα

perfectly

ἀκριβῶς

that

ὅτι

the day

ἡμέρα

of the Lord

κύριος

so

οὕτως

cometh

ἔρχομαι

as

ὡς

a thief

κλέπτης

in

ἐν

the night.

For

γάρ

when

ὅταν

they shall say,

λέγω

Peace

εἰρήνη

and

καί

safety;

ἀσφάλεια

then

τότε

sudden

αἰφνίδιος

destruction

ὄλεθρος

cometh upon

ἐφίστημι

them,

αὐτός

as

ὥσπερ

travail

ὠδίν

upon

ἐν

a woman with child;

γαστήρ

ἔχω

and

καί

they shall

ἐκφεύγω

not

οὐ

escape.

ἐκφεύγω

brethren,

ἀδελφός

are

ἐστέ

not

οὐ

in

ἐν

darkness,

σκότος

that

ἵνα

that day

ἡμέρα

should overtake

καταλαμβάνω

ὑμᾶς

as

ὡς

a thief.

are

ἐστέ

all

πᾶς

the children

υἱός

of light,

φῶς

and

the children

υἱός

of the day:

ἡμέρα

we are

ἐσμέν

not

οὐ

of the night,

of darkness.

let us

καθεύδω

not

μή

sleep,

καθεύδω

as

ὡς

καί

do others;

λοιπός

but

ἀλλά

let us watch

γρηγορέω

and

be sober.

they that sleep

καθεύδω

sleep

in the night;

νύξ

and

καί

they that be drunken

μεθύσκω

are drunken

μεθύω

in the night.

us,

who are

ὤν

of the day,

ἡμέρα

be sober,

νήφω

putting on

ἐνδύω

the breastplate

θώραξ

of faith

πίστις

and

love;

ἀγάπη

καί

for an helmet,

περικεφαλαία

the hope

ἐλπίς

of salvation.

appointed

wrath,

Lord

ἀποθνῄσκω

for

ὑπέρ

us,

ἡμῶν

that,

ἵνα

whether

εἴτε

we wake

γρηγορέω

or

εἴτε

sleep,

καθεύδω

we should live

ζάω

together

with

σύν

him.

Wherefore

comfort

παρακαλέω

yourselves together,

ἀλλήλων

and

edify

οἰκοδομέω

one

εἷς

another,

καθώς

as also

ye do.

we beseech

you,

brethren,

to know

them which

labour

ἐν

the Lord,

admonish

to esteem

highly

περισσός

love

ἀγάπη

for

work's sake.

And be at peace

yourselves.

we exhort

παρακαλέω

you,

ὑμᾶς

brethren,

ἀδελφός

warn

νουθετέω

them that are unruly,

ἄτακτος

comfort

παραμυθέομαι

the feebleminded,

ὀλιγόψυχος

support

ἀντέχομαι

the weak,

ἀσθενής

be patient

μακροθυμέω

toward

πρός

all

πᾶς

men.

that none

render

ἀποδίδωμι

evil

κακός

for

ἀντί

κακός

unto any

man; but

ἀλλά

follow

διώκω
