Though

ἐάν

I speak

λαλέω

with the tongues

γλῶσσα

of men

ἄνθρωπος

and

καί

of angels,

ἄγγελος

and

δέ

have

ἔχω

not

μή

charity,

ἀγάπη

I am become

γίνομαι

as sounding

ἠχέω

brass,

χαλκός

or

ἤ

a tinkling

ἀλαλάζω

cymbal.

though

ἐάν

I have

ἔχω

the gift of prophecy,

προφητεία

and

καί

understand

οἶδα

all

πᾶς

mysteries,

μυστήριον

and

καί

all

πᾶς

knowledge;

γνῶσις

and

καί

though

ἐάν

I have

ἔχω

all

πᾶς

faith,

πίστις

so

ὥστε

that I could remove

μεθίστημι

mountains,

ὄρος

and

δέ

have

ἔχω

not

μή

charity,

ἀγάπη

I am

εἰμί

nothing.

οὐδείς

though

ἐάν

I bestow

ψωμίζω

all

πᾶς

my

μοῦ

goods

ὑπάρχοντα

to feed

ψωμίζω

the poor, and

καί

though

ἐάν

I give

παραδίδωμι

my

μοῦ

body

σῶμα

to

ἵνα

be burned,

καίω

and

δέ

have

ἔχω

not

μή

charity,

ἀγάπη

it profiteth me

ὠφελέω

nothing.

οὐδείς

suffereth long,

μακροθυμέω

and is kind;

χρηστεύομαι

charity

ἀγάπη

envieth

ζηλόω

not;

οὐ

charity

ἀγάπη

vaunteth

περπερεύομαι

itself,

περπερεύομαι

is

φυσιόω

not

οὐ

puffed up,

φυσιόω

behave itself unseemly,

seeketh

ζητέω

her own,

παροξύνω

easily provoked,

evil;

iniquity,

rejoiceth

endureth

Charity

ἀγάπη

never

οὐδέποτε

faileth:

ἐκπίπτω

but

δέ

whether

εἴτε

there be prophecies,

προφητεία

they shall fail;

καταργέω

whether

εἴτε

there be tongues,

γλῶσσα

they shall cease;

παύω

whether

εἴτε

there be knowledge,

γνῶσις

it shall vanish away.

we know

γινώσκω

in

ἐκ

part,

μέρος

and

καί

we prophesy

προφητεύω

in

ἐκ

part.

δέ

when

ὅταν

that which is perfect

τέλειος

is come,

ἔρχομαι

then

τότε

that which is in

ἐκ

part

μέρος

shall be done away.

ὅτε

I was

ἤμην

a child,

νήπιος

I spake

λαλέω

as

ὡς

a child,

νήπιος

I understood

φρονέω

as

ὡς

a child,

νήπιος

I thought

λογίζομαι

as

ὡς

a child:

νήπιος

but

δέ

when

ὅτε

I became

γίνομαι

a man,

ἀνήρ

I put away

καταργέω

childish things.

now

ἄρτι

we see

βλέπω

through

διά

a glass,

ἔσοπτρον

darkly;

ἐν

αἴνιγμα

but

δέ

then

τότε

face

πρόσωπον

to

πρός

face:

πρόσωπον

now

ἄρτι

I know

γινώσκω

in

ἐκ

part;

μέρος

but

δέ

then

τότε

shall I know

ἐπιγινώσκω

even as

καθώς

also

καί

I am known.

ἐπιγινώσκω

And

δέ

now

νυνί

abideth

μένω

faith,

πίστις

hope,

ἐλπίς

charity,

ἀγάπη

these

ταῦτα

three;

τρεῖς

but

δέ

the greatest

μείζων

of these

τούτων

is charity.

ἀγάπη
